Around 25,000 homes in south-east Queensland found themselves lacking electricity on the start of the week after powerful weather events passed over the region, producing strong winds topping 109 kilometers per hour.

Residents witnessed substantial frozen pellets as large as 7cm in some areas. Weather authorities confirmed that different parts across Queensland had been affected by substantial ice precipitation.

Emergency response teams responded to nearly 600 calls for help across the state, mostly for building damage but also for downed trees and water accumulation.

During the peak on Sunday, over 28k electricity consumers in the state were without power.

Meteorological Predictions

Moist weather were forecast to persist along large portions of Queensland's east this week as a low-pressure trough continued to draw in moisture against the coast.

Tomorrow was expected to become the most rainy day, with continued thunderstorm potential predicted across various areas of both regions.

Health Warning

Medical authorities warned that there was an higher risk of thunderstorm-induced asthma across the countryside regions, particularly given the current weather patterns.
